We finally have a name for our little guy. We had narrowed it down, but then we were overwhelmed by so many additional suggestions from family and friends. It was too hard to make a decision, so we had to seek out advice from our most trusted consigliere.

Welcome Baby Uff
Baby Uff was born on September 24th, 11:01am into the arms of his parents. Janna had an amazing attitude and made huge efforts through the entire labor, and we were helped by a wonderful group of woman making sure everything was just right for Baby Uff's grand entrance. We don't have a name for him yet. I want to name him Maverick but Janna thinks he looks more like an Iceman. So we still have some more negotiating. The one thing we can agree on is that we love him to pieces.
The pictures below are of Baby Uff's 1st day:

It was a long few nights. 42 hours of prodromal and 10 hours of labor. This was towards the end. Janna was truly amazing through it all. |

Julie (that's Mormor to Baby Uff) was so helpful at the birth. It was wonderful to have her there. |

I can't believe that we have been married for two years! We were just saying that it feels like we have been together forever, but the last two years have gone by in the blink of an eye. I'm sure it also has something to do with the fact that the last two years have been so eventful. Just in the last year we bought a house, spent half of the year traveling back and forth to the UK and Portugal, were blessed to be a part of friends and family's weddings and births and were able to go on countless adventures. Not to mention this new adventure of becoming parents. Our little guy was considerate enough to not be born on our anniversary (although if he had we wouldn't have minded).
I was reading a magazine and came across a quote that the late Anne Bancroft said about her husband Mel Brooks and the secret to their 41 year marriage. It reminded me so much of Zan.

"He makes me laugh a lot,' she said, explaining their attraction to the New York Daily News in 2000. 'I get excited when I hear his key in the door. It's like, Ooh! The party's going to start."
From Ruby to the baby everyone dances when Zan gets home.
Thanks to Zan for being such an amazing husband and for making me feel so loved everyday. Everyday is filled with laughter and adventure thanks to him.

Check in at 37 weeks
We have made it to 37 weeks! Yay! The worry about preterm labor is over and the countdown begins until we meet our little guy. I went in to see our Midwife yesterday to check in. Everything looks great. Now it is just wait and see how it goes. I had an ultrasound yesterday and we could see him sucking his thumb! She held the ultrasound for me so we could just watch him move. She confirmed what we already knew-he is a VERY busy and strong little boy. Don't be concerned about the alien looking forehead, it is just the angle of the ultrasound. He definitely has a Brock nose though!
Weekend of showers
Ladies love to lunch. Sorry to Emily and Melissa who were cut out of the shot. I blame the waitress. You both looked lovely. |
It was a weekend of showers for the Uffs. Zan was at his "Man Shower" which included Whidbey Island, some of his best friends, games and general debauchery. Needless to say there are not any photos for the blog of his weekend, but a very tired, very muddy, Dad-to-be returned to us on Sunday.
It was much more "G-rated" weekend for baby Astro and his Mama. We started with a Baby Shower Brunch on Saturday with family and my oldest friends. We were showered with love, presents and lots and lots of books. Thanks to Auntie Heather for planning and for everyone for being so flexible to change location, time etc due to my inability to travel.
On Sunday our dear friends Kathleen and Juliet threw us a shower. It was perfect weather, wonderful food, good friends, and complete with baby antics from Josefina and Luke. Luke tried out every piece of baby gear, outfits and ended the party with falling in the cooler. It's not a party until someone falls and gets stuck in the cooler
Example of why we have children. I think Auntie Mo is pretty excited about the Orca pinata. Luke might just be along for the ride :) |
