Leif's new skills

Leif loves grabbing things with his pincher fingers. Loves sugar packets, spoons and anything he can get his hands on. As we eat he watches the food from our plate to our mouths, making a swipe at our hands like a cat as the food goes into our mouths. We decided it was time for food. I debated what we should start with. Everyone says something different. Start with rice cereal. No, start with vegetables. Any vegetable. Oh, just start with fruit. Oh no, definitely not fruit-then they don't want vegetables. While feeling slightly overwhelmed (and a little sad that he is growing up and will not just be breastfeeding) I decided to make it simple with rice cereal. Besides the avocados weren't ripe yet, and we didn't get any sweet potatoes in our CSA box. I have been reading a great book called Hungry Monkey. He is a chef who works as a food critic and writer, and writes about his adventures feeding his daughter. He reassures me that babies can eat anything. So first rice cereal...next pad thai!

Notice the intense concentration with the tongue sticking out. He does this now when he is focusing on doing something. Especially picking things up and examining tags on things.
His first try he grabbed the spoon as I was holding it and shoved it in his mouth.  His eyes became huge and he gagged a little. After we both got over the shock (and utter terror for me) he liked it, although it was more fun to just squish is around on the tray.
mmm...what are you looking at? haven't you seen a guy eat before?
